Reminiscing Part 1...
I've had some down-town this afternoon and started looking through pictures we took these past couple of years... Here are some highlights in no particular order (Insha-Allah more to come):
My first turkey (with much help from Mom R!!)
A very talented man who we met on one of our travels through the country! He displayed his artwork at the Smithsonian Museum a few years back. Here he is showing us how they shape the tin.

Home is Where the Heart is...
Wow it has been a looong time since I've written anything! I always find it awkward writing on the blog after I've been away for so long.
Anyways. We're doing good. We have about 5-6 weeks left before we journey "home". (Which means only about 5 weeks left of language school!) Two years ago I couldn't even begin to imagine only 5 weeks left of language school. I've learned a lot but have sooo much more to learn.
Moves are always filled with mixed emotions! Pray for us! It is so hard saying goodbye to good friends and not knowing when or if we'll see them again. At the same time I'm really looking forward to time with family and old friends, jogging on park trails, fall leaves, bookstores with real books, and Christmas lights!
On a completely different note: We've really been challenged by Ephesians 5 lately. Read it if you get a chance...

Cultural Blunder and a New Dress??
Over the Eid break we went and visited most of our friends (as is custom to do). As I was sitting with one of my friends, I nonchalantly (sp?) said: "I like your new dress!" She responded by asking... "Do you want it?"
I totally forgot that here, when you compliment someone on something, they are culturaly obligated to give it to you. Thus, most people don't say: "Your earings are great!" or "I like your rug!" (Although I think some people use this to get things...but that's a whole other thing...)
Anyways...I tried to work my way out of it. I mean, it was a dress! Her dress! But I couldn't say I didn't want it...she would have been totally offended it. I tried explaining to her that in my culture we compliment people's things but don't expect them to give it to us. I don't think my arabic is as good as I previously thought...she ended by saying she would have the taylor make me a new dress just like hers!

Palindromes and Eid
I'm taking an online TEFL course right now and throughout the chapters they have "fun English" facts. Here is the Fun Fact from Chapter 10:
A palindrome is a word, phrase or sentence that reads the same forward and backward as in:
A Santa at NASA
Civic
Dad
Dee saw a seed
Never odd or even
Rise to vote, sir
Was it a cat I saw?
A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!
Madam in Eden, I'm Adam
I don't know how people come up with these sentences, maybe I'll try to come up with one next time I'm stuck in traffic at the border :)
In other news, Eid is tomorrow...or the day after tomorrow. We'll find out tonight (inshallah) after the last prayer call. Either way, I'm looking forward to it. The challenge is trying to visit all your friends in 1-2 days. Every house you are stuffed with food, mostly candy, sweets, and coffee...before you go to the next, where you are stuffed even more. Everyone is decked out in their new outfits, and kids are super excited because everyone is handing them candy, money, and gifts. Families all get together and the men get up real early to slaughter and sacrifice a lamb, while the ladies start getting the early afternoon meal ready and start cooking the lamb as bits of it are ready to cook. The shops, restraunts, and schools are all closed...it's party time!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Here are a few pics from Thanksgiving day! :) J was awesome and helped me with the turkey in the morning, and some of our friends from school came over for turkey dinner, football, and a great game of settlers in the afternoon. Even the nieghborhood dog came to hang out!
